LCR Honda IDEMITSU rider Takaaki Nakagami enjoyed a productive two-day test at Jerez as he continued his learning curve aboard his new MotoGP machinery. The Japanese rookie will form part of an expanded two-man LCR team alongside Cal Crutchlow in 2018 having made the step up from the Moto2 championship and, given his showing in Jerez, looks ready to make an impression in the premier class.

Nakagami managed a total of 60 laps on Thursday and improved throughout the day, posting his fastest effort on what was his penultimate lap. The 25-year-old was only around a second down on the times of MotoGP veterans like Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Iannone and acknowledged he was pleased with the progress he was making.

“It was a really positive test for us over the two days. We are improving day by day and, like in Valencia, after each outing on the bike we improved on the bike and the lap times, especially on the second day when we were much more consistent.

“We did a lot of 39s (laps of 1 minute 39 seconds), so that is good progress for us especially as we are still understanding each other, like my riding style and what we can improve on as a team. But overall it was a very nice test and now we are looking forward to the first test of the new season in Malaysia.”
