CRUTCHLOW THROUGH TO Q2 IN QATAR DESPITE TRICKY CONDITIONS

The second evening of MotoGP action at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar saw two free practice sessions take place in tough conditions, following heavy rain during the day that left the desert track in a worse state than on the opening night.

Coupled with the strong winds that picked up throughout the evening, it was hard going for the LCR Honda Team and Cal Crutchlow, but in his own unique fashion the Brit was one of the few riders to improve his lap time. Setting the ninth fastest time of the weekend so far, he sealed passage straight through to Saturday’s qualifying shootout.

Crutchlow subsequently suffered a spill at the treacherous second corner, one of many to be caught out already this weekend. However, having thankfully emerged unscathed he will hope to seal a good grid position during qualifying, with his pace looking decent for Sunday night’s race.

CRUTCHLOW MAKES A SOLID START IN QATAR

The 2017 MotoGP World Championship season got going under the floodlights at the Losail International Circuit on Thursday evening as the first free practice session for the premier class took place. LCR Honda rider Cal Crutchlow put in a solid opening showing, despite some issues with his Honda RC213V, as he finished the day in seventh place.

The Briton – who is hoping to build on his two race victories in 2016 – endured an oil leak at the start of the session which hampered his progress. Further issues with the bike meant Crutchlow wasn’t at his best, but he still produced a very respectable result and ended the session less than half a second behind Dani Pedrosa in third spot.

As he did during the recent pre-season test in Qatar, young Spaniard Maverick Viñales topped the timesheets.

LCR AND CRUTCHLOW EXCITED AHEAD OF 2017 MOTOGP CAMPAIGN

The 2017 MotoGP World Championship is set to get underway in Qatar on Thursday and the LCR Honda Team and rider Cal Crutchlow have high hopes for another memorable season. The opening race at the Losail International Circuit will mark the third year that Crutchlow has represented LCR and, once again, the satellite racer will form a one-man team in the premier class, supported by HRC Honda.

Last year the Briton enjoyed some superb success as he claimed two race victories – at Brno and Phillip Island – and two second-places on his way to finishing seventh in the championship standings. After a positive close season of testing, the 31-year-old is now looking to make a fast start this time around aboard his RC213V.

Indeed - having failed to take points in either of his first two starts in 2016, including at this same venue – Crutchlow is determined to build on his impressive test performance in Qatar two weeks ago. Having demonstrated then he has the speed to challenge for more victories this term, he will be looking to maintain that form when qualifying starts under the floodlights tomorrow evening.

SUCCESSFUL SECOND DAY OF TEST FOR CRUTCHLOW IN QATAR

Just one more day of testing remains before the start of the 2017 MotoGP World Championship, after Cal Crutchlow and his LCR Honda Team completed day two of three at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar.

The Briton got in more running on Saturday after losing some track time to mechanical gremlins yesterday, ending the session in P4 despite a small tumble in the final part of the session and managing 46 laps on the second day of action. Crutchlow was also top Honda once again, this time with a 1’55.032.

CRUTCHLOW SATISFIED AFTER FINAL TEST IN QATAR

CRUTCHLOW SATISFIED AFTER FINAL TEST IN QATAR

LCR Honda rider Cal Crutchlow rounded off a satisfactory final test ahead of the 2017 MotoGP World Championship season with a busy final day at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar. The completion of Sunday’s session marked the end of official preparation for the new term which gets underway at the same venue in two weeks’ time.

Crutchlow completed a total of 70 laps on day three, securing plenty of valuable time in the saddle of his RC213V ahead of the forthcoming campaign. He posted the eighth fastest time of the day, which saw him finish the test ninth in the combined standings – above reigning world champion Marc Marquez who ended in 11th place overall.

The impressive Maverick Vinales again topped the timesheets on Sunday, as he did during every session of the three days. However, with less than 1.3 seconds covering the top 18 riders in the final standings, 2017 promises to be a fascinating season in the premier class.
